Storm Ashley has hit the UK

Storm Ashley has hit Salthill during high tide this evening. This is the  Atlantic at its wildest.

The past 24 hours have seen Storm Ashley ravage Ireland with the west coast being hit seriously hard by 'red level' wind gusts and flooding from high tides.

Carlow Weather's Alan O'Reilly has detailed the wind gusts felt in the last 24 hours with Galway seeing 'red' gusts sweep across the coast.

He said: "The table of storm gust information from Sryan Bruen shows Storm Ashley only reached red level gusts at two stations on the edge of the West coast, a couple in Mayo reached Orange, good few yellow but a number of stations didn’t even reach Yellow."
