This is actually extremely sad… there aren’t any big enough ice sheets for the polar bears’ main source of energy (ringed seals, Harper seals, etc.) to occupy and make up a rookery (a.k.a a breeding colony for seals). This causes the seals to travel further away so that they can breed safely and as a result, polar bears have to travel further and expend a lot more energy to meet the same calorie intakes. It’s very sad and alarming.
