SURFING THE SWELL OF THE DECADE IN MADEIRA ISLAND | Nic Von Rupp

Known for its powerful, heavy, long, and perfect waves, Madeira Island is seen by many as the Hawaii of the Atlantic.

Surrounded by crystal-clear blue waters and covered lush subtropical vegetation it plays the part all too well. But the absence of big crowds, the fine wine culture, the boulder-riddled beaches, the delicious food and the general look and vibe of Madeira, really sets it all apart.

For this trip Nic Von Rupp scored the biggest and better aligned swell we’ve seen here in years. It was a Day of Days at Jardim do Mar, arguably the best big wave pointbreak in the world.

Joined by fellow riders, Hawaiian Big Wave Charger, Torrey Meister, Grant “Twiggy” Baker, Miguel Blanco, Lourenço Katzenstein and Portuguese young gun, João Maria Mendonça and with a shooting crew on a boat, it was an unique day captured under a never seen before angle in beyond perfection sort of day. Come and join u us in the line-up.

PERFECT WAVES IN ERICEIRA | Nic von Rupp

A film by Von Rupp Media.

I would like to present to you the second episode of Portugal Back to Back the new series inside of the Von Froth channel that will bring to you waves, stories, and good times from north to south of Portugal.

In this episode, I take you on a tour around Ericeira, a town known for its world class waves, on a day with absolutely pumping offshore barrels where I alongside Frederico Morais, Aritz Aranburu and Gony Zubizarreta scored some crazy waves in Ericeira.

Ericeira is the first European World Surfing Reserve for well more than one reason. If seven waves are identified as making up the Reserve, there are at least a dozen more worth riding spread around these seven jewels.

Just a little tease to start of the Indo Season.

Carnage at Teahupoo

Video by Nic Von Rupp

Teahupoo just went crazy last week with some crew really pushing the limits. Amazing to see the locals dominating and charging really hard, which for us HAOLES means we can scrap for the impossible ones. Some really heavy wipe outs went down,  with Pain and headaches for us surfers, but carnage entertainment for the fans.
Honestly, some people see wipe outs as a fail, I see it bravery act of pushing the limits, where sometimes you fail but when you do end up making it you are setting yourself up for a ride of a lifetime.

Here is a a short edit of the best Teahupoo Carnage of this last swell.

NEW WORLD RECORD AT NAZARÉ? | Nic Von Rupp

This season has been mind-blowing, Huge swell after Huge swell, some crazy rides have been ridden... In this episode, I take you thru the season, to those waves that I think are some of the best this year that might be considered record breaking. I also express myself on the defaults of what in my perspective is wrong when it comes down to measuring waves, as every year as soon as the Nazaré Season finish you see claims of record breaking waves being ridden.

Is this the year we will see a new world record?

Nazare Biggest Swell of the Season | Nic Von Rupp

Photo: Margarita Salyak

Video by Nic Von Rupp.

2021 and 2022 has been a huge season for Nazaré, Massive swell after Massive Swell, Injuries after Injuries most of the tow teams have been swiped out including myself.. I was supposed to be out for the season due to a rib injury, but after seeing the Huge swell approaching Nazaré at 23ft at 21sec with perfect offshore winds, I knew it was a swell I couldn't miss out on, ribs were hurting, yet I felt like I needed to ignore that and just face the beast. So I called up Chumbo, he flew in from Hawaii and we made it happen.

A day for the history books | Nazaré January 8, 2022

Last weekend was insane, some of the biggest cleanest waves we had seen out at Nazaré.
A day of perfect 50-70ft waves with plenty of successful rides but also some heavy heavy
wipe outs and close calls.

NAZARE POST CONTEST SURF

Crowd, good energy, big waves... The Nazaré Challenge is back  to Nazaré! I'm super stoked to have shared this day with Pedro Scooby. I couldn't have asked for a better partner to have my back this day.. What a performance!!
You have all seen the footage of the Nazare Challenge, what you probably haven't seen is the day after, perfect 20ft conditions ideal to paddle.

Winter swells are back in Nazare

Nic von Rupp "Last week was insane at Nazaré, back to back swells in the 20-30ft range, we thought we were going to tow but it ended up being a all paddle swell with some big barrels in the mix.

Always dreamt about riding a huge barrel at Nazaré. It’s that one frontier that hasn’t been cracked properly at Nazaré. Everything came together on this day, 15-20ft perfect condition and I finally got what I was looking for a big barrel on a 10’4 board."

NIC VON RUPP | THE MACARONIS DREAM!!!

Nic just got back from the most insane Sail Boat trip down to the Mentawais. He scored really good Macaronis and double the size Greenbush to the previous trip.

This week we are launching the Macaronis episode and in 10day the Greenbush stuff.

Here are some words from Nic:
"Surfing Macaronis with not many people around has been a dream since a kid, i maybe even everyones dream, its worlds most user friendly wave with barrels to turn to airs, but its usually packed with 30+ people. It was crazy to show up there and surf it for 2 days with very few people around.. You would catch a wave an be straight in line for the next set. I think everyone ended up surfing 60 waves each..
I think this might only happen to me once in a life time."

The Art of Scoring - Von Rupp

People think that scoring good waves is all about showing up and scoring, but its a really thin line between actually scoring good waves and spending a ton of money and not getting anything.

On the last big south swell in the Ments we had to make a though call between leaving behind pumping 8-10ft bankvaults and getting into a 6h canoe ride into the eye of the storm to score some epic Greenbush with not a soul out. Its those last minute decisions that make or break, its leaving the comfortabel and roaming into the unconfortable. What an epic journey to spend my birthday, one to be remembered.

MY GIRL SURFS | VON FROTH

Who is Frothing about having a girlfriend that charges a slab in a brand new pyzel surfboard?

Matilde has been working hard  the past 6 months to improve her surf skills and nothing better than a new board to level up her performance. Check all the journey of getting a brand new board and drive directly to the beach to make sure she deserves it or return the board back.
